Yobot Frozen Yogurt

So Froyo has finally landed in Helsinki, Yobot is this bright new spot in the otherwise full of grannies area of Töölö in Helsinki.

This place is a little slice of heaven for those looking for a healthier option to Ice cream, a nice place to hang out or just that great excuse to treat yourself with delicious fruity flavors or if you are like me the oh so sweet and very American toppings. (The oh so American toppings include: Reeses Pieces, Lucky Charms, Hot Tamales and they even have Red Vines and Butterfingers!)

The place opened a bit of a year ago this march and it was born out of a random idea a father and daughter joked/thought about in Hawthorn, USA.  Some years later this idea would materialize in Finland where Emma Beidler is now running the shop with the help of her mom and friends.

The store is very different for what we could expect for Helsinki, it is so colourful and welcoming that it reminds me a bit of those traditional Ice cream/candy shops in the Willy Wonka movies mixed with what we would expect to be a hangout for techies from Google.

The offering includes Yogurts in different flavors which change daily as well as the traditional vanilla, waffles, lemonades, smoothies and many others. The main dish to say so is the frozen yogurt with multiple toppings, there you can go from dry fruit to fresh fruit to nuts and candy. The topping area is so well organized and the amount of toppings dwarfs the very boring and plastic offering the franchises offer in Kamppi.

The location is also ideal because the area was in desperate need of some color and the locals seem to love it. (I saw over 10 customers walk in with their dogs, kids or friends even after closing time, which was my fault cus we ended up rambling about SNL (Saturday Night Live), Survivor, Emma Stone, California and even the Finnish Education system and kept them open longer.)

The place is very popular and they haven’t even had the need to buy publicity due to the fact that word of mouth has provided them with a big number of followers on Facebook and Instagram. The flavors are great and the attention paid to what customers want result in exciting new offerings constantly.

This novel idea will for sure become a go-to place for families and young people looking for a sweet and healthy option to the freezer section in the local store. Its open yearlong and during winter it has this Froyo Thermometer which offers you a discount in the amount of minus degrees that day is a great incentive to get off your butt and face the snow for a while. I will most likely gain 10 more pounds before the summer is over and I will for sure be back with my friends for more, Like them on Facebook so you can keep up with the flavors and the events coming up later this year.

They also have a Froyo cart, it can be spotted around the city in places like Flea Markets and the Design District. Wouldn’t be surprised if you can find it soon in the Finnish Silicon Valley area where the Rovio and Nokia Headquarters.
