A Nordic Fashion photoshoot inspired by the city of Helsinki (which at the moment is by the hipsterati attending the Flow Festival). A city that wants to be modern and urban and cosmopolitan yet clenches to tradition and nature, it struggles sometimes but it always seems to find the right balance.
Finland is stuck literally between the very, very liberal Sweden and the increasingly conservative Mother Russia. No wonder Helsinki is stuck between two different world views, it is a country that has historically been a pawn between both its neighbors.
So it’s only fitting that for this shoot we would play with the Scandinavian urban/rural aesthetics, use Finnish Fashion brands and a Russian Model.
I hope this combo reflects the way Helsinki resembles Brooklyn and its vibrant art/fashion scene and how it plays with its Nordic design tradition through clothes… these are two of the reasons Helsinki is such a fascinating city, at least in my perspective.
This photoshoot is dedicated to the LGBT youth of Russia who cannot express themselves publicly, we wave a flag for you over here in Helsinki.
